After Months of hard work Hargreaves Surface Mining is proud to have achieved the very highest of international standards by achieving OHSAS 18001 at the Tower Surface Mine Site. Achieving this internationally recognised standard is only the start of our pursuit to achieve the very highest standards in our business practices, we will now continue to implement these practices for the benefits of our employees, customers, suppliers and communities we operate in.
Alan Protheroe (SHE Manager Hargreaves Surface Mining) commented "I would like to thank all of the team and persons involved at Hargreaves Surface Mining for the hard work they have put in over the last 6 Months to achieve this standard – it is a great effort to be accredited in such a short time, and is a testament to the attitude of the team, management and employees towards improving the quality and safety of our operations”.
The OHSAS 18001 standards provide organizations with the elements of an effective safety management system which can be integrated with other management systems and help organizations achieve better occupational health and safety performance and economic objectives.
BS OHSAS 18001 specifies requirements for an OH&S management system to help an organization develop and implement a policy and objectives, which take into account legal requirements and information about OH&S risks. It applies to all types and sizes of organizations and accommodates diverse geographical, cultural and social conditions.
BS OHSAS 18002 provides guidance for establishing, implementing or improving a management system which is based on OHSAS 18001 and demonstrating successful implementation of OHSAS 18001.
